Frequently Asked Questions
Am I required to have a meal plan?
A meal plan is required for all residential students. First and Second-year students must select from the Meals Per Week Plans while students who are least in the Third-year must select a Meals Per Week Plan or an A La Carte Plan. Residential students of Phelps and Hausdoerffer who are at least in their Third-year are also eligible for the Apartment Plan. Commuter students are not required to have a meal plan. For specifics on meal plans, please click our My Meal Plan page.
How/when do I sign up for a meal plan?
To sign up for a meal plan, please visit the My Housing Portal through Residential Education and Housing. All new residential first-year & transfer students sign up for a meal plan during the housing application process. Returning resident students select their meal plans during the room selection process. Commuter students can also purchase a Meals Per Week Plan through their My Housing Portal, or purchase a Block Plan by contacting Ron Shoemaker at ronald.shoemaker@sodexo.com.
Can I change my meal plan?
Yes! You have the ability to change your meal plan selection from semester to semester. Please contact Residential Education and Housing at (609) 771-2301 or visit them online for deadlines: Residential Education and Housing.
What is the difference between swipes and flex points?
Swipes are only good at The Atrium at Eickhoff, our only residential dining hall on campus which is a buffet style with 10 micro restaurants to choose from. Entry into The Atrium at Eickhoff costs one swipe. If you are on a Meals Per Week Plan, your weekly swipe balance will reset every week. Flex Points can be used at any retail dining location on campus. This would include The Lion's Den, Traditions, T-Dubs, all Cafes (Fresh Pride, STEM, Education, and Library), and the C-Store. Flex Points are a declining balance and 1 Flex Point = $1.
I'm a commuter, what are my options?
Commuters are not required to have a meal plan. If you wish to purchase one, you can choose from a Meals Per Week Plan, and an a La Carte Plan or a Block Plan. For more information, please visit our My Meal Plan Page. Commuters may also pay with cash or card at any of our locations.

We realize students have very busy schedules, and should they not have the time to speak with someone immediately, they can email us at mktgcrd@tcnj.edu, or can text a comment or question to 82257. Simply include "TCNJ Dining" along with your message. Students can also use the Feedback form on our website.

If a student’s card does not work at any dining services location, please use the mobile credentials on your phone. If it's outside of normal business hours, please see the Manager on Duty.
